Uddrag af maleren J.Th. Lundbyes dagbog fra 1842 danner grundlag for en abstrakt stemningsrejse i lyd. Baryton sangeren Niels Pihl er solist i denne studieversion af Draminsky Højmarks elektroakustiske lommeopera "En landsoldats dagbog". Ved uropførelsen i Barcelona 1995 skrev pressen bl.a.: ".. it is above all the music, sober and solemn, which has created a severe and intense spiritual and aesthetic experience."

"En landsoldats dagbog" is an electroacoustic pocket opera based on 9 diary qoutes from the danish Painter J. Th. Lundbye made during his foot journey in the area of north Sealand with his fellow painter Skovgård in the summer 1842. Lundbye describes very nutrally what they see and what is happening on the journey, it is completly free of references to his family and his impossible love relation to the daughter of a wealthy farmer, which the rest of the diary is full of. But close to the end of the journey he reveals, that in fact his thoughts the most of the time were with his beloved Louise...
This part of the Lundbye diary, which he kept from March 1842 to april 1843, gives inspiration to an anonymous individual journey, where thoughts , memoirs anddreams appear. The main characterin the piece is not supposed to be Lundbye, but represents any searching, experiencing person. Likewise the story is not an attempt to reproduce the journey in a naturalistic mannner...
