Jakob Draminsky Højmark presents

 "aN eMPTY sPACE? v.1"  & "SONGTALE#04"

at SPAZIO ARKA,  Assimini, Sardenia, Italy

This event marks the moment of a transition, a metamorphosis.
Sound material developed for one purpose turns inside out and starts a new life.

"aN eMPTY sPACE?" consists basically of a large collection of sound recordings made by 15 opera singers, individualy interpreting three scores written by Draminsky Højmark. This series of scores The dEADLY, The hOLY, and The rOUGH was written using theatre director Peter Brooks milestone work. "The empty space" as an artistic point of departure. Thus creating a multi-tongue sound archive full of hidden references to the history of theater from Shakespeare to Friel and in passing Maeterlinck and Artaud.

The sound material has until now been presented in various forms; as a stationary gallery installation, as mobil installations on public sites, as museum concerts and lastly as a pocket-opera adding a live soprano voice.

At SPAZIO ARKA  "aN eMPTY sPACE?" will be presented in its original form as a random 8 channels collage of the non manipulated sound recordings, suggesting an abstract epic operatic atmosphere.

Various documentation objects as well as original score parts and notes from the complex processes will be displayed in the space.

Up to this point "aN eMPTY sPACE?" only consisted of human voices, reproduced either digitally transformed or non treated, "Songtale#04" brings the material into a new state and hereby combines it with Draminsky H øjmarks instrumental abilities.

"Songtale#04" turns "aN eMPTY sPACE?"  into one hour long concert situations based around two woodwind instruments; the bass clarinet and the sopranino saxophone and a laptop computer. Using the interactive software MAX/MSP to trigger and manipulate samples from the original "aN eMPTY sPACE?" archive, and to process the sounds of his acoustic instruments, Draminsky Højmark creates an instant realtime soundscape inspired in storytelling.

It will be possible to attend a work-in-progress version of
"Songtale#04" on the evening of Thursday 22/3 and parts of the piece in the morning of Friday 23/3. The premier will take place on Friday evening 23/3.

"aN eMPTY sPACE?"  will be open to public in SAPZIO ARKA  from Thursday 22/3 to Sunday 25/3.
